Trigger warning - I’m talking about abortion in this piece.
What’s the old saying? When America sneezes the rest of the world catches a cold. Less than two years after the US Supreme Court overturned Roe vs Wade, Nigel Farage has piped up, saying that MPs should debate rolling back the abortion limit in the UK. He’s not the only elected official to express a view like this - read this excellent piece from Byline Times for more - but it’s hard to argue that there’s not a new boldness which comes from Trump's reelection. Extreme anti-abortion lobby groups from the US have been ramping up spending in the UK in recent years - those ghouls who protest outside abortion clinics aren’t always random chancers, often they’re organised and supported by groups we have no idea about (https://www.theguardian.com/world/2024/apr/06/extreme-us-anti-abortion-group-ramps-up-lobbying-in-westminster).
